Today we'll examine how coral reefs respond to rising ocean temperatures. When water becomes too warm, corals expel the symbiotic algae living in their tissues, a process called bleaching. Without these algae, corals lose their primary food source and their vibrant colour, turning white. If high temperatures persist, the corals eventually starve and die. Scientists warn that repeated bleaching events, now occurring more frequently, leave reefs little time to recover, threatening the marine biodiversity and coastal communities that depend on these fragile ecosystems.
