How long do PTE results take? PTE result time explained

PTE Academic results usually arrive within two business days of your test, and many candidates get them within 24 to 48 hours. That speed is the main reason people choose PTE over paper-based tests: because your answers are scored by automated AI rather than a human examiner, there is no marking queue to wait in. PTE Core results follow the same short timeline. Below is what the typical PTE result time looks like, what can slow it down, and how to view and send your score once it lands.

How long does a PTE result take?

For nearly everyone, a PTE result is ready inside two business days. Pearson quotes this two-day window as the standard turnaround, and in practice a lot of candidates see their Score Report within a single day. Here is the timeline most people can expect.

Business days matter here: weekends and public holidays do not count toward the two days, so a Friday test may land on the following Monday or Tuesday. If you have booked a test with a fixed deadline in mind, count in business days and leave a buffer.

Why PTE results are so fast

PTE is scored by machine. Your spoken answers, your writing and your reading and listening responses are all marked by Pearson's automated scoring engine, not sent to human raters. That removes the biggest source of delay in other English tests, where a person has to listen to and mark every speaking and writing response. The trade-off is that the scoring rewards clear, well-structured answers that the engine can read confidently, which is why practising on the real task types matters. What can delay your PTE result

Most results are on time, but a few things push a result past the usual two days:

• A response flagged for manual review. If the automated system is not confident about a spoken or written answer, it can route it for a human check, which adds time.
• ID or check-in problems. A mismatch between your booking and your identity document at the test centre can hold a result while it is verified.
• A technical issue during the test. Microphone, headset or system problems that affect a section may need review before the score is released.
• Left or incomplete sections. Skipping tasks can trigger extra checks as well as lowering your score.

If your result has not appeared after five business days, contact Pearson customer support with your booking reference rather than waiting longer. There is no paid option to speed a result up, so the best insurance is a smooth, complete test day.

How you get your PTE result

When your result is ready, Pearson emails you to say the Score Report is available. You then sign in to your Pearson account to view it. The report shows your overall score and four skill scores for Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening, all on the 10 to 90 scale, plus a Skills Profile with recommendations. How to check your PTE result online

You do not check a PTE result on a public results page with a roll number: you check it in your own myPTE account, the one you booked the test with. Pearson's steps are:

1. Wait for the email. Pearson emails you when your Score Report is ready. If five working days have passed and nothing has arrived, look in your junk or spam folder first.
2. Sign in to myPTE at mypte.pearsonpte.com with the account you booked with.
3. Select "View Score" on your myPTE homepage.
4. No button? Go to "My Activity", find the test and select "View Score" next to it.
5. Download the PDF if you want a copy to save or print.

If you are told the score is ready but the report will not open, or it shows a message about technical problems displaying photographs, Pearson's advice is to try again later: the score should be there within 24 hours. If it is still missing after that, use Pearson's customer support form, which Pearson says reaches the right team faster than phone or live chat. Keep the PDF: the Score Report is valid for two years from your test date, and after that you can no longer open it in myPTE.

Sending your PTE result to a university, Home Affairs or IRCC

• Universities and colleges (PTE Academic): in myPTE, choose the test, search for each institution by name and tick it. You can send to up to seven at once, and Pearson emails you a confirmation. An institution can see the score about 48 hours after you send it, and it sees only the result you sent, not your other attempts. You can also give an institution the Score Report Code, the 10-character code on your report, so it can look the score up.
• Australia (Department of Home Affairs) and New Zealand (INZ): if you ticked the box for either when you booked, your scores are sent to them automatically. They do not review those scores until you have submitted a visa application, and in the application you give the Test Registration ID of the result you want them to look at.
• Canada (IRCC, PTE Core): Pearson says you can share your score with IRCC using your Score Report Code or by sending it from myPTE, and that you enter the IRCC Unique Reference Number (URN) shown on your Score Report in your visa application so the Government of Canada can verify it.

Sending scores is free whichever route you use. Before you send, check that the result meets the requirement: the PTE Core score chart shows the CLB level each skill score gives for Canada.

PTE Core result: how long it takes and where to see it

A PTE Core result arrives on the same timetable as PTE Academic. Pearson says most test takers get their PTE Core results within two business days, and you open them in myPTE in exactly the same way, with "View Score" on the homepage or under "My Activity". The difference is what you do next: a PTE Core result goes to IRCC for a Canadian visa, as described above, rather than to a university. Your Score Report shows the overall score and the four skill scores on the 10 to 90 scale, and it is the skill scores that IRCC converts to CLB levels.

How long is a PTE score valid?

A PTE Academic score is valid for two years from your test date. After that, most universities and visa programmes will not accept it, so line up your test date with your application deadline rather than sitting the exam too early. How long is the PTE exam itself?

People often mix up two different questions: how long the result takes, and how long the test takes. The PTE Academic test runs for about two hours in one sitting, covering Speaking and Writing, then Reading, then Listening. Because PTE is computer-based and machine-scored, the on-screen format and timing catch people out as much as the questions do.
